Dear Jefferson Middle School Families and Friends,
It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I write this letter of introduction to you as your new Principal at Jefferson Middle School. I am truly honored to become part of a community! It is clear that this school is a unique and special place.
This summer, I will be spending much of my time getting to know the staff, building needs, the school’s community and familiarizing myself with the Jefferson School Improvement Goals. I already know that Jefferson is a place where strong connections are made between home and school and staff members are committed to developing the whole child.
Professionally, I possess over 23 years of experience in MMSD and over 30 years in the field of education. I hold a teacher, principal and superintendent license. Motivated by my positive experiences in school, I received my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Milwaukee. I taught in Milwaukee public schools and in early childhood settings before I became a principal in a K-8 school for six years. I received a PhD from the University of Wisconsin, studying school reform. My work in MMSD has been a range of principalship opportunities as well as 13 years in the Central Office leading and supporting schools in multiple changes that the landscape of education has brought over the years.
Personally, it may be more important for you to know that I am the parent of three children and grandparent of six grandchildren as well. I fully understand the challenges and rewards you face every day as you work to ensure your child has the best educational experience. One of the most important aspects of my work here at Jefferson Middle School will be building strong relationships with students, teachers and families. You’ll find me in the hallways, classrooms and at special activities. My passion has been and always will be educating students. With that in mind, you can expect that I will work diligently with staff to make sure our students are exposed to curriculum and instruction that is both engaging and challenging, as well as having a calm environment in which to thrive. I have an open-door policy and welcome your input and ideas. I’m looking forward to meeting each of you as we start the new and exciting year together!
