Jefferson Construction Updates
Thank you, Madison voters! The referendum to improve Madison school facilities passed on April 7, 2015, with an 82% majority.
In fall 2015, the MMSD construction team held meetings with school administration and staff to hear our feedback on the draft floor plan.
Design is scheduled to take place through January 2016, with bidding and contract awarding happening in March, for a May or June construction start date.
Follow Project Progress
Built as an open-concept school, the lack of permanent walls in many rooms at Jefferson Middle School creates noise and distractions. Jefferson received a grade of “F” in the district’s annual FCI report for the overall condition of the building. The building’s HVAC system is especially in need of replacement.
Renovations will create conditions more conducive to teaching and learning to make Jefferson an even better place to learn! The projects that were proposed in the school referendum that passed on April 7, 2015, are as follows:
- Add partitions between classrooms
- Improve interior circulation by replacing the HVAC system
- Replace the elevator for increased accessibility
- An electrical system upgrade
- New windows and exterior doors
- New ceilings and LED lighting
- Restroom renovation
The estimated cost of the above proposed projects is $8,074,640.
